I pieced the different roots of the palm together like it was a textile which I layered and weaved together. After my wings were complete, I began moving them around a basin of water which had great blue walls around it. I was drawn to the basin as it was a space without much background distraction, where my work could project around the basin on both the walls and the water. Sound also echoed beautifully within it, capturing the noises of the birds, butterflies and water. Working there enabled me to animate the object and give it aerial qualities through my motion of the body. I was able to explore its kinetic potential in relation to shadow, light and the water. It felt like a collaboration with the birds also that would fly and circle around me as I moved through the space.
